PAI Sheets

The properties of Torlon PAI sheets?

Torlon PAI sheets is a PAI profile stock with excellent overall performance. PAI, or polyamide-imide, is a unique class of polymer materials. Its molecular chain incorporates amide and imide groups, which are regularly alternating on aromatic rings. This gives PAI materials unparalleled heat and low-temperature resistance, resulting in excellent mechanical properties and dimensional stability even in high-temperature environments.

PAI sheets

1. Excellent Temperature Stability: It can operate over a wide temperature range of -60°C to 260°C, maintaining excellent mechanical properties (such as strength and modulus) and dimensional stability at high temperatures. It also features a low coefficient of thermal expansion (approximately 2×10⁻⁵ to 7×10⁻⁵/°C).

2. Excellent Mechanical Properties: It offers the highest strength among pure resin systems, with a tensile strength exceeding 172 MPa and a flexural strength of 170 MPa. Its strong creep resistance makes it suitable for high-load precision components. Unreinforced grades (such as PAI 4203) offer excellent toughness, while glass-fiber-reinforced grades (such as PAI 5530) offer enhanced impact resistance.

3. Wear Resistance and Self-Lubrication: Torlon PAI sheets boasts a stable coefficient of friction of 0.15–0.3, reducing wear without the need for external lubricants. Grades with added PTFE or graphite (such as PAI 4301) exhibit significantly improved wear resistance.

4. Insulation: PAI is an excellent electrical insulating material. Its high insulation resistance and low dielectric constant effectively prevent the conduction of current, reducing energy loss. In the electronics and electrical industry, it is commonly used in printed circuit boards, insulating gaskets, and support structures for electronic components.

5. Dimensional Stability: Torlon plates has a low coefficient of thermal expansion, and even at temperatures up to 250°C, its volume change is minimal. The low coefficient of thermal expansion and high temperature resistance work together to avoid deformation or cracking caused by thermo-mechanical stress. PAI material's creep resistance allows it to maintain molecular chain rigidity at high temperatures, reducing deformation caused by molecular chain slippage and thus maintaining dimensional stability.

  • Torlon sheets is a PAI plastic profile made from PAI resin—that’s polyamide-imide, an amorphous plastic. Basically, it takes the heat resistance and strength of a polyimide and blends it with the easier processing and toughness of a polyamide. Its key features are pretty clear: great heat resistance (works continuously at 250 °C), high resistance to heat deformation (load bending temp of 279 °C), solid mechanical performance—especially tensile strength and impact resistance—along with excellent fatigue life, flame retardancy, and wear resistance. It also handles high-pressure rupture well.
