Torlon Rods

Torlon rods is a kind of PAI plastic profile. PAI stands for polyamide imide, an amorphous material with a glass transition temperature (Tg) of 537 °F (280 °C). It can handle continuous high-temperature and high-pressure environments up to 260 °C (500 °F) with no problem, making it a seriously tough and melt-processable plastic. Its heat resistance is especially impressive.PAI has a really low thermal expansion rate and excellent creep resistance, so it stays dimensionally stable in all kinds of conditions. Parts made from it also offer great compressive and impact strength. You’ll often find it used in things like electrical connectors, bearing cages, spindles, chip-test sockets, and labyrinth seals.

Product Description

Torlon rods material comes in three main varieties, depending on what’s mixed into it:

The first is the basic type (PAI 4203 rod, no filler). It’s a yellowish-brown color, with a specific gravity of 1.41 g/cm³. This one offers the best toughness and impact resistance out of all the PAI materials.

The second is the reinforced type (PAI 5530 rod, with 30% glass fiber added). It’s dark green in color and has a specific gravity of 1.61 g/cm³. Compared to the unfilled version, it’s harder, stronger, and less likely to warp or deform.

The third type is the wear-resistant version (PAI 4301 rod, with PTFE and graphite added). This one is a military green color, with a specific gravity of 1.45 g/cm³. It’s more wear-resistant and has a lower friction coefficient.

The Torlon PAI rod sold by GuangZhou Ideal is all genuine material. We can provide supporting documents like material performance sheets, MSDS, UL reports, SGS, FDA, and others. We also offer custom cutting to your required sizes, or can machine it into specific parts and finished products.

Product properties:

1. Good heat resistance: The base Torlon rods material (unfilled) has a heat deflection temperature of around 269°C. If you add carbon fiber, that number goes up to 278°C (tested under 0.45 MPa load). Even at a high temperature like 260°C, it still keeps more than 40% of its bending strength. Plus, under long-term use, its creep deformation is cut in half.

2. Strong mechanical properties: Pure PAI resin has a tensile strength of about 172 MPa. Its flexural modulus reaches 4.5–5.0 GPa, but if you go for a carbon fiber filled grade, that jumps to over 7.0 GPa—that’s 150% higher than the pure resin. Unnotched impact strength is roughly 1100 J/m, though it drops below 800 J/m with glass fiber added, mainly because of stress concentration. If you choose a 30% carbon fiber reinforced version, tensile strength can go above 220 MPa, and it stays stable even at high temperatures.

3. Corrosion resistance: Torlon PAI rod holds up well against a lot of chemicals and doesn’t corrode easily from things like acids or bases. It keeps its structure and performance stable in different chemical environments without breaking down. That’s why you’ll see it used in chemical and pharmaceutical industries—for example, as liners for reaction vessels or piping parts in drug-making equipment. It stands up to chemical exposure and makes equipment last longer.

4. Excellent insulation performance:PAI is a top-tier electrical insulator. It has high insulation resistance and a low dielectric constant, which means it blocks current flow well and cuts down on energy loss. In electronics and electrical applications, it’s often used for circuit boards, insulating gaskets, and support parts for components. This helps keep devices running safely and prevents issues like short circuits.

5. Fatigue resistance & dimensional stability: Polyamideimide PAI rod keeps its strength even at high temps, so high-strength grades are common in precision parts that face repeated loads. Grades filled with glass or carbon fiber boost strength and stiffness further at temperature, plus they offer low creep and really good fatigue resistance.

6. On dimensional stability: PAI performs exceptionally well at high temperatures. Thanks to its stiff aromatic heterocyclic molecular structure, the chains don’t move much when heated. Combined with regularly arranged functional groups, the whole structure stays very stable.

FAQ

What does your company do?

We’re Guangzhou Ideal Plastic Technology. We got our start back in Hong Kong in 2011, and now our main factory is in the Huangpu district of Guangzhou. Basically, we specialize in making semi-finished plastic profiles from high-performance engineering plastics—materials like PEEK, PAI, PI, PPS, and a few others. On top of that, we also handle CNC machining and injection molding, so we can turn those materials into finished parts ready for you to use.

How long does it take for delivery?

If it’s a standard profile we already have in stock, we can ship it out as soon as your payment comes through. If it’s something customized, the timing really depends on your order size and what exactly you need—we can work that out together once we talk through the details.

What certifications do your products have?

We’re ISO9001:2008 certified for our quality management system. Our products also carry SGS, CE, and RoHS certifications, and meet environmental standards like REACH, EN71, and a few others.

Can I get samples?

Absolutely! If we have the semi-finished profiles you need in stock, we can send samples over for free—you’ll just need to cover the shipping. And don’t worry—the samples will be exactly the same quality as what you’ll receive with a full order.

Can I return or exchange the goods?

Whether it's a semi-finished or custom product, if there’s a quality issue, the size is off, or anything else that makes it unusable, just let us know as soon as you can. If it’s clearly our mistake, we’ll handle the return or exchange and cover the shipping both ways.

If you ordered the wrong thing or want to return it for another personal reason (especially with profile blanks), as long as it’s still in resalable condition, we can help—though you’ll need to cover the shipping costs.
