Torlon Parts

Torlon parts is a product made from PAI plastic. It can be produced using CNC machining, injection molding, or compression molding. PAI is a thermoplastic engineering plastic that’s really hard, has good crystallinity, is easy to work with, and can handle long-term use at high temperatures up to 250°C. It also resists UV and radiation (like gamma and X-rays) really well, wears slowly, and even has a self-lubricating effect.

Product Description

Here are a few things to keep in mind when processing Torlon parts:

Common issues in injection molding:

Injection molding is the most popular way to process PAI, but it’s also where problems pop up most often.

Take shrinkage, for example—this is when the surface of the part sinks in, especially in thicker sections. It usually happens if the holding pressure is too low or the cooling time is too short, so the material doesn’t get topped up after it shrinks. Uneven wall thickness in the design can cause it, too. To fix it, you can bump up the holding pressure, extend the holding and cooling time, tweak the design to avoid thick spots, and keep the mold temperature around 204–218°C. That helps the material crystallize more completely.

Common issues in machining:

PAI can run into some typical problems during machining as well.

For instance, if dimensions aren’t accurate, the part might not match the drawing. This could be because of tool wear, cutting speed, feed rate, or depth of cut being off, or even from the workpiece deforming while it’s clamped. Whenever possible, it’s best to use carbide or diamond tools, adjust your cutting settings, improve how you hold the part, and minimize clamping distortion.

GuangZhou Ideal Company has been working with Torlon product for over ten years and has built up a lot of hands-on experience. We’ve trained plenty of technical staff and invested in high-end equipment. Whether it’s making molds or manufacturing products, we can come up with a suitable production plan based on your part’s design and quality needs. This helps us avoid typical issues like unstable dimensions, short shots, shrinkage, bubbles, burning, or stress cracks in injection molding—and problems like warping, surface flaws, or weak spots in machined parts. We make sure every polyamideimide PAI part product meets our customers’ expectations for both performance and precision.

Product properties:

1.Handles Heat Like a Champ

Torlon parts can keep working non-stop at 250℃. At that heat, it still has a tensile strength of 59MPa (about 65% of its 90MPa at room temperature) and a bending strength of 96MPa (roughly 61% of its 157MPa at room temp). If you're using a modified version, the strength drops by less than 15% at the same high temperature.

It doesn't warp easily even under constant stress when it's hot, with a deformation rate below 0.2%. Its thermal expansion is really low, only about 3 × 10⁻⁵/℃ (close to some metals), so size changes stay within 0.3%.

The material doesn't start breaking down until above 380℃ in an inert setting. Even after being used in air at 250℃ for 5000 hours straight, its tensile strength drops by less than 12%.

2.Tough Against Wear and Tear

PAI’s molecular chain has aromatic rings and imide groups, making it really rigid. This structure holds up against friction and shear forces well and minimizes surface deformation. Under dry conditions, its friction coefficient is between 0.15 and 0.3. Its chains also have polar groups that can form a transfer film during rubbing, which helps reduce adhesive wear.

If you blend in PTFE or graphite, the friction coefficient can go as low as 0.08–0.12. Models reinforced with 30% glass fiber (like TORLON 5530) boost wear resistance by over three times, keeping wear loss under 1.5 mg. With carbon fiber modification, the PV value can hit 0.8 MPa·m/s.

3.Low Thermal Expansion & Stays in Shape

Torlon product has a really low thermal expansion coefficient, between 2 × 10⁻⁵ and 7 × 10⁻⁵/℃. That means parts don't expand or shrink much with temperature swings, staying very dimensionally stable up to 280℃. Deformation at high temps is minimal, so it’s great for precision components.

4.Good Electrical Insulator

PAI is an excellent electrical insulator. It has high insulation resistance and a low dielectric constant, which effectively blocks current and cuts down on energy loss.

5.Resists Creep Under Long-Term Stress

Polyamideimide PAI part is outstanding at resisting creep. Adding 30% carbon fiber to PAI composites (like in TORLON 5030) boosts creep strength by 50%. At 250℃ under 100MPa stress, the deformation rate is only 0.1%. These grades are made especially for high-temperature structural parts in industries like semiconductors where creep resistance is critical.

6.All-Around Dimensional Stability

Thanks to the aromatic rings in its molecular chain, PAI has an extremely low thermal expansion coefficient. Size change usually stays within 0.3% from -50℃ to +280℃, which keeps assembly precise even at high temperatures.

A. It also absorbs very little moisture—only 0.2% to 0.3%—much lower than most plastics. So humidity changes hardly affect its dimensions, and it helps avoid cracking when metal inserts are molded in.

B. With special heat treatment, PAI can form a more uniform crystalline structure. This helps reduce later shrinkage from internal stress, keeping long-term size variation within 0.05%. These traits make it a perfect fit for fields like aerospace and semiconductors, where dimensional stability is super important.

Where can you actually use this stuff?

Torlon parts is a material made from PAI plastic. It keeps all the good things about plastic, and you can mold and shape it in all kinds of ways, so it’s used in even more areas.

Here’s where you’ll often see it:

1.Aerospace:

Like parts inside airplanes, fuel system pieces for jet engines, and bearings that can handle high heat and don’t need extra lubrication.

2.Electronics & Electrical:

Things like chipsets, sockets, electrical parts that won’t melt under high temperatures, and certain insulating components are made from it.

3.Industrial Equipment:

Common uses include seals and bearings that run without lubrication, plus bearing isolator rings and parts inside reciprocating compressors.

4.Semiconductor Industry:

It’s great for making precise parts for high-temperature processing equipment—especially the kind that has to work in a vacuum.

FAQ

1.What does your company do?

We’re Guangzhou Ideal Plastic Technology Co., Ltd. Our company started in Hong Kong in 2011, and our factory is in Huangpu, Guangzhou. We mostly work on developing and making semi-finished profiles from special engineering plastics—things like PEEK, PAI, PI, PPS, PPSU, PEI, and a few others. On top of that, we also do CNC machining and injection molding to help customers turn those materials into finished parts.

2.What certifications do your products have?

We’re ISO9001 certified for our quality management system. Our products also have test reports from SGS, CE, and RoHS, and they meet environmental standards like ROHS, REACH, and EN71.

3.Can products be customized? How does that work?

Yes, definitely. You can send us your 2D or 3D drawings—common formats like STEP, STP, STL, or IGS are all fine. If you have a physical sample, just ship it to us and we’ll take care of the measurements. And if you have special needs, we can also help with design or tweaks.

4.Can I return or exchange the goods?

For semi-finished or custom-made products, if you find any quality issues, sizes that don’t fit, or anything else that affects use, please get in touch with us right away. If it’s really our fault, we’ll handle returns or exchanges and cover the shipping both ways.

If you ordered the wrong thing yourself or want to return/exchange for personal reasons (especially for profile blanks), as long as it doesn’t affect us reselling it, we can arrange that—but you’ll need to cover the shipping cost.

5.Can I sign a confidentiality agreement?

If your product drawings or images need to stay private, we can sign a confidentiality agreement with you. We won’t put these materials online or share them with anyone else. We keep our word and are willing to take legal responsibility if we break it.

6.What kind of equipment do you have?

Our factory has large production lines for plastic profiles, plus different kinds of CNC machines and CNC machining centers—including four-axis and five-axis ones. We also have engraving machines and laser cutting equipment. And our injection molding workshop is set up as a 100,000-class cleanroom—super clean and dust-free.
