Picking the right cutting tool and coating is key. For instance, tools coated with titanium nitride or made of tungsten carbide are more wear-resistant and less likely to leave marks on the part surface. The tool’s shape matters too—things like the cutting edge angle, rake angle, and relief angle all need to match PEEK’s “personality.” That way, the cut is cleaner, there’s less heat buildup, and the force is spread evenly.

Getting the cutting parameters right is another must. By fine-tuning the speed and feed rate, we keep heat and cutting forces in check—so the surface won’t get rough from overheating or excessive force.

And we can’t forget the cutting fluid. It helps cool and lubricate everything, which cuts down on heat buildup, reduces material expansion, and minimizes tool wear. The result? A much smoother finish.
